In northern Italy (I don’t know what it’s like in other regions), people are very dog-friendly everywhere, even in restaurants. As our Colja doesn’t fit into a handbag (53 kg), we always ask beforehand whether we can take him inside. We were only turned away once because it was just too crowded. Understandable!
Despite the many dogs you see in the streets, everything is very clean and the dog owners are very responsible. However, it is forbidden by law for dogs to run free anywhere except in designated, fenced-in play areas. These are not always easy to find, so I have shown the known locations here. One by one I will visit all of them myself and write articles about them. Give me and my Colja (Russian Black Terrier) a little time.
As not all hiking trails are perfectly suitable for dogs, I will always check and describe the suitability for dogs of the hikes described. Are there water points? What is the substrate like? Etc.
We like this bad-weather walk from Laveno-Mombello to Cittiglio because the path is asphalted and therefore not muddy, because you can park right at the starting point and your dog
Small dog play area in Cittiglio with an asphalted path for a short walk in between without mud, without inclines and with lots of greenery all around.
