Preparation and buying tickets

I don’t know what possessed me.
At some point I saw this stupid advertising sign for the Lago Maggiore Zipline somewhere and told my sweetheart about it.
It was my own fault!
Well, the better the weather got, the fewer excuses there would be for me.
So, for better or worse, I had to buy tickets.
That wasn’t so easy at first because the Lago Maggiore Zipline website is only available in Italian.
But it is quite clear.
First you have to buy a flight ticket via “Regala il volo”.
Then book a time slot via “Prenota ora”.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to be exactly on time.
It’s just about avoiding traffic jams.
Very clever.
And if I’d had to wait any longer, I might have backed out.

The drive to the starting point was quite adventurous: a very small, mostly single-lane, winding, narrow road.
Sometimes a little steep, but always beautiful.
We were lucky and opted for our quad bike.
The larger cars and even vans we encountered didn’t look so relaxed.
We drove up from Verbania via Aurano.
I wouldn’t recommend this route for motorhomes.
However, there are beautiful, simple campervan pitches at the top of the zipline.
With a camper van, you should definitely take the small (approx. 5 km) detour and drive from Verbania via Premeno.
Incidentally, this is also a very cute little town.

Ein letzter Kuss vor Abflug mit der Lago Maggiore Zipline

After showing our tickets and renting a GoPro for 15 euros (highly recommended!), we took a van up and up for 15 minutes, over hill and dale, enough time to think about whether we’d rather take the same route back… But no, you go, you hang – haha, that fits – so into the little starting hut, get weighed (huh???? Is the rope just adjusted to the weight? Maybe a roll less this morning?, patiently put on the equipment (“It may feel a bit loose at the beginning, but don’t worry, it will tighten up once you are hanging.”) WHATTT??? Loose? They must be crazy! Then we stand next to each other on the jump board and are told to bend down and lie on our stomachs in the harness. Okay, now I understand. Now it’s also – reasonably (fun!) – secure. My knees are shaking, my sweetie is relaxed and fiddling with the GoPro.

Nein, das ist nicht lustig. Kurz vor dem Start zur Lago Maggiore Zipline.
Jetzt gibt es kein Zurück mehr!

Then we radio to the valley station that we are taking off and the valley station confirms that the landing area is clear.
That’s better.
And off we go!
The take-off is very smooth and the flight is surprisingly comfortable, but I’m stiff as a board.
It’s a mystery to me how my fart can voluntarily fiddle with the GoPro during the flight.
At 120 km/h, the airstream and the rope were of course a bit loud, but that was easily drowned out by my fearful screams.
After a good minute, the spook is over.
Almost.
But now we’re definitely going to die.
We hurtle towards the end of the rope at what feels like 60 km/h, but the nice catcher from the zipline team still looks completely relaxed.
And indeed, the impact is surprisingly gentle.
And: I’m still alive.
Amazing!

Landepunkt der Lago Maggiore Zipline
Das kann nicht gutgehen!
Wir haben es überlebt: Lago Maggiore Zipline
Am Ende waren wir dann doch beide froh!

Amazing, we survived!
It really is spectacular, and I think the price is fair at 38 euros per person (regardless of whether you fly as a couple or alone).
And the view: Breathtaking.

Have fun!
