A good local nursery is worth its weight in gold! If you are looking for a nursery on Lake Maggiore, you have a very wide choice.
What do you do on a rainy day at the lake?
Yes, they do exist: rainy days on Lake Maggiore. It’s the end of January and the weather is really miserable – just like in northern Germany. Then I get an idea: “Duuuuu, darling?” I nudge the best husband of all time. “Don’t we really need a few more plants for our garden?” My loved one is immediately wide awake, because he’s been wanting a green wall with hanging rosemary (Rosmarinus prostratus) for a long time and, quite by chance, I’ve already found a nursery online that has something like this in stock.
After a short drive, we arrive at the beautiful large metal gate of the dream nursery. I had already contacted Anna by email and she immediately gave us a warm welcome and showed us to her rosemary plants. Anna and her husband Maurizio are the fourth generation to run the business together. Maurizio’s father Luigi is also still on board.
From honey to landscape planning
The Galbiatis have just about everything a garden lover’s heart desires: from the smallest potted flower to vigorous fruit trees to complete garden planning, including an irrigation system and a new type of defense mechanism against mosquitoes and other pests – based on aromatic oil. Oh yes: they can of course also send a tree climber by if required. And honey is a must! The Galbiatis also produce it themselves.
When we arrive, Anna is already beaming with joy as she rushes towards us. After a lengthy consultation, we stick to our decision for the hanging rosemary and Anna promises to give us a good price if we buy her remaining 50 plants. As we can’t fit them in our car anyway, we make another appointment for the next day. Less than half an hour later, I actually receive the promised special price via WhatsApp, which we think is very fair.
No job too big!!!
When we pick up the plants the next day, there are two very nice saleswomen on site who give me a very friendly tour of the entire nursery in excellent English, give me detailed advice on fruit trees and warmly recommend the honey.
I’m happy and already looking forward to March when my fruit tree order is delivered. Oh, a rainy day in January is something nice!
