You don’t usually travel to Lake Maggiore for swimming or diving.
The shore is rocky and where the shore is not built on, it is usually steeply uphill.
Therefore, beautiful bathing spots are rare, difficult to find and unfortunately overcrowded in the high season, especially at weekends. Bathing shoes are recommended for all spots, as the shore is almost always rocky.
As you can see from the pictures, we only go swimming when everyone else is already at dinner.
Here are a few tips:
Diving and swimming spot a few kilometers south of Castelveccana (Spiaggia delle Cinque Arcate di Castelveccana):
A small (sometimes unkempt in high season) parking lot on the main road with a mostly closed kiosk doesn’t seem very inviting at first glance.
The small bay on the other side of the road is all the more beautiful.
It can be easily reached via a small flight of steps.
The water is very clear in this part of the lake, making the bay a popular diving spot.
For “off-road” water rats, there is an unofficial alternative to the diving spot: next to the entrance of the road tunnel between Castelveccana and Laveno, there are some beautiful bathing spots along the old road.
However, the parking facilities are very limited and the descent to the bay is rocky, sometimes with climbing aids (ropes).
As soon as we have found more beautiful swimming and diving spots, we will report here. Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter!
